Early owners of Apple's foldable iPhone Duo are reporting cracks along the central crease of the inner display. In some cases, the defect is accompanied by a bright line of stuck pixels. Apple acknowledged that the issue has affected a small number of devices and advised affected users to contact AppleCare support for a replacement phone.

The iPhone Duo is Apple's first foldable smartphone. Although the category has long been established on the market, the device's launch attracted considerable interest: demand has been so high that buyers have had to wait their turn. However, the first reports of malfunctions have already sparked jokes on social media and prompted some owners to question their purchase, Business Insider reports.

Cracks Along the Crease and Jokes on Social Media

iPhone Duo owners are posting photos and reports of damage to the inner screen along the fold line. In some cases, a bright line caused by malfunctioning pixels also appears on the display.

In a statement to Business Insider, Apple said that the device had received an “overwhelmingly positive” response from early users overall. The company also confirmed that owners experiencing display problems should contact AppleCare for a replacement device.

Not all images of damaged screens circulating online can be considered authentic: some of the most widely shared pictures were edited or generated using AI.

The situation has already become a source of jokes. For example, one X user created a wallpaper simulating a crack in a foldable display — for those who cannot afford an iPhone Duo but still want to experience its main flaw, at least virtually.

Crypto Traders and Memes About the Foldable iPhone

A separate wave of jokes emerged after a post from the official Crypto.com account. In October, the company said that the foldable iPhone would be ideal for traders who find it convenient to use several apps at once.

The idea soon turned into memes playing on the stereotype of crypto traders as people who supposedly monitor the market constantly, lack steady jobs, and overestimate their own abilities.

Two Screens — Even More Endless Scrolling

The device's very concept inspired just as many jokes. The iPhone Duo's 7.6-inch inner screen lets users open two apps side by side, while the outer 5.4-inch display is available when the phone is folded.

Critics quip that the ability to use multiple apps simultaneously could distract users even more and worsen their habit of endlessly scrolling through feeds — known as doomscrolling.

The phone's design also prompted jokes about “performative men” — an internet meme about men who ostentatiously embrace particular books, music, and cultural trends to impress women.

In one video, a user demonstrated how the foldable screen makes it even easier to immerse yourself in an endless stream of content.

Business Insider summed up the idea with a tongue-in-cheek line: if one screen is not enough for an evening of doomscrolling, Apple has a $1,999 solution.

It remains unclear how widespread the inner display defect is and whether it is related to the device's design or isolated manufacturing issues. Apple has said only that a small number of phones are affected. It is therefore too early to draw conclusions about the reliability of the entire lineup based on these initial reports.
