Apple is reportedly expected to unveil the base iPhone 18 in spring 2027 alongside the more affordable iPhone 18e and the second generation of the slim iPhone Air. According to preliminary information from leaker Digital Chat Station, the smartphone will feature a new A20 processor, an OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, and a larger-capacity battery. However, the company may raise the device's starting price.
Three new models could launch at the same time
According to the leak, Apple is preparing to expand its iPhone lineup in the first half of 2027. The standard iPhone 18 is expected to be joined by the budget iPhone 18e and the iPhone Air 2, a continuation of the company's slim smartphone series.
The unveiling is reportedly scheduled for March or April 2027. If the information proves accurate, Apple will introduce several devices aimed at different groups of buyers at once.
For now, this is preliminary information: the company has not officially confirmed either the models in its upcoming lineup or their release dates.
OLED display and new A20 processor
According to Digital Chat Station, the base iPhone 18 will feature a 6.3-inch OLED display with a 1.5K resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. This will keep visuals smooth when scrolling through the interface and using apps.
The biggest hardware upgrade could be the A20 processor, which is expected to be manufactured using a 2nm process. Further details about the chip's performance and capabilities have not yet been disclosed.
The smartphone is also rumored to feature Face ID facial recognition and a larger-capacity battery. Exactly how much battery life will improve remains unknown.
Camera and design: No radical changes expected
According to the leak, the iPhone 18's main camera will have a resolution of 48MP. The secondary camera could feature a 12MP or 48MP sensor; the final configuration has not yet been decided.
The smartphone will likely retain its familiar appearance. In particular, preliminary information suggests that the Dynamic Island will remain unchanged.
The main expected upgrades will therefore focus on the device's internals: a new processor, an updated display, and a larger-capacity battery. There is currently no information suggesting a major overhaul of the smartphone's design or construction.
Apple may raise the price
Another possible surprise is a price increase for the base iPhone 18. The leaker reports that a price hike is likely but provides no specific figures.
For comparison, the iPhone 17's starting price in the US was $899. It is not yet known how much Apple might adjust its pricing for the next generation.
There is still time before the rumored spring unveiling, so the specifications and the company's plans could change. Nevertheless, the leak already points to a possible direction for the base lineup: more powerful hardware and a smoother display while retaining the familiar design, but potentially at a higher price.
