Many smartphone owners notice that their device loses a noticeable amount of charge overnight, even though the screen is off and Bluetooth and Wi-Fi appear to be disabled. IT expert Vladimir Zykov explained that this is most often not related to "hungry" apps but is caused by other hidden processes.

The main reason — poor network signal

According to the specialist, one of the most common causes of overnight battery drain is a weak mobile signal. Even in sleep mode, the phone constantly tries to maintain a connection with the cell tower, forcing the radio module to operate at higher power.

Zykov noted that additional load can be created by messengers, VPNs, fitness apps, email, cloud services, and smartwatch software. The phone periodically wakes from sleep mode, activates the processor, and transmits data.

Other frequent culprits

The following factors also significantly drain the battery:

  • Constant scanning for Wi-Fi networks and Bluetooth devices
  • Geolocation (even if it is "turned off," some apps may activate it)
  • Automatic backup and system file indexing
  • Battery wear (over time, battery capacity decreases)

What is considered normal

Under normal conditions, a smartphone should lose between 1% and 4% of charge overnight. If the loss is 10% or more, it is already a reason to check the device.
