Buying a smartphone second-hand can lead to serious problems — from device confiscation to identity theft. IT specialist and head of the audit and consulting department at F6, Evgeny Yanov, told Lenta.ru what to pay special attention to.

1. Risk of buying a stolen phone

According to the expert, even if the phone looks perfect and the seller has a receipt, this does not guarantee the device's legitimate origin. If the smartphone is on a wanted list, law enforcement agencies may seize it. Getting money back in such a case would be extremely difficult.

Recommendation: Be sure to check the IMEI number. It should match on the device body, in the settings, on the box, and in the documents. Also ask the seller to provide proof of purchase (receipts, correspondence with the store).

2. Previous owner's data
