One of the leading climate experts at the U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), Kate Marvel, has resigned. She cited increasing government pressure on scientific work as the primary reason. This was reported by Bloomberg, citing a letter from the scientist.

Marvel addressed her letter to the director of the Goddard Space Flight Center, Gavin Schmidt, and his deputy, Ron Miller. In an excerpt published by Bloomberg, she expressed deep disappointment, noting that she had never expected science itself to come under attack simply because, like journalism, history, and even the best forms of art, it serves as a way of seeking truth.

An agency representative declined to comment on the situation. Officially, NASA stated that it does not discuss personnel matters.

Marvel’s resignation comes amid significant changes within NASA’s structure. Earlier, the administration of President Donald Trump cut more than a third of the staff at the Goddard Space Flight Center—the very division responsible for managing the legendary Hubble Space Telescope. As a result, some laboratory spaces are now standing empty. According to sources, these areas are planned either to be demolished or leased out.
