Apple is preparing to unveil HomeView — a new home hub with a screen and the Siri voice assistant, designed to unify control of smart home devices. According to Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman, the presentation will take place on October 13. For the company, this could become its most serious attempt yet to gain a foothold in a market where its previous products failed to achieve mass success.

A screen, Siri, and smart home control

According to Gurman, Apple has been developing the device for several years. Now, it appears the project has both a name and an announcement date.

HomeView will be equipped with a screen, an A18 processor, and Siri. It is expected to let users control compatible smart home devices. Two versions of the device are reportedly planned: one designed for placement on a desk or kitchen counter, and another that can be mounted on a wall.

This format would allow the hub to serve as a central control point for household appliances and other connected devices. However, for now these are only specifications published with reference to Bloomberg’s sources: Apple has yet to officially introduce the product and disclose details about how it works.

Why Apple needs a new approach

Despite years of developing its ecosystem of devices and services, Apple has so far failed to achieve notable dominance in the smart home segment. Its HomeKit software platform has not gained the level of adoption the company may have hoped for, and the HomePod smart speakers have not become an unquestionable market hit.

HomeView could change that situation by offering a more visual and convenient way to interact with home devices. Unlike a speaker, a screen-based hub can display control interfaces and visual information instead of relying primarily on voice commands.

Still, a new form factor alone does not guarantee success. Much will depend on Siri’s capabilities, compatibility with devices from different manufacturers, and how easy it is for users to set up their home system.

Apple will also update other home devices

According to Gurman, at the same presentation Apple is also planning to show updated versions of Apple TV and HomePod mini. In this way, the company may present not just a standalone device, but a broader refresh of its home ecosystem.

In addition, Apple was previously reported to be partnering with LG to develop a smart lock, thermostat, and doorbell. If those plans are confirmed, Apple will be able to expand the range of devices that work within its smart home platform.

It is still unclear when all of these products will go on sale and how tightly they will be integrated with one another.

HomeView faces a difficult task: turning the smart home from a collection of separate devices into a clear and convenient system. If Apple manages to offer a truly useful interface and ensure broad compatibility, the new hub could become an important step for the company in this market. But final conclusions can only be drawn after the official announcement and a look at the device’s real capabilities.
