Apple has unveiled an updated 24-inch iMac and the base model of its 14-inch MacBook Pro laptop. Both devices feature the new M6 processor, which is expected to significantly boost performance in artificial intelligence tasks and graphics processing. The company announced the news on its official website.
The computers look virtually identical to their predecessors, with the main changes coming to the hardware. The iMac has moved from the M4 chip, while the MacBook Pro has moved from the M5, introduced last year.
According to Apple, the new iMac performs artificial intelligence tasks up to five times faster than the 2024 model. The MacBook Pro's graphics performance has increased by 30% compared with its predecessor.
Both devices support Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6. The MacBook Pro also features faster charging.
Preorders for the new devices will open on October 27, with sales beginning on November 6. The iMac will start at $1,499 and the MacBook Pro at $1,999, Bloomberg reports.
Apple continues updating its device lineup
The announcement of the new computers was part of a series of Apple product launches this week. On Monday, the company unveiled an updated iPad mini with a new display and water resistance.
Apple may also unveil its first touchscreen MacBook Pro on October 27. According to Bloomberg, the device will feature a thinner, lighter body, slimmer display bezels and an OLED screen.
The company is thus preparing not only another performance upgrade for its computers, but also more noticeable changes to the MacBook Pro's design. Meanwhile, the newly unveiled M6-powered iMac and 14-inch MacBook Pro retain their familiar designs, with the new processor as their main selling point.
