An international team of scientists from the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI) Institute has conducted the first intergalactic search for alien radio signals at a frequency of 100 MHz. The study covered 2,800 galaxies, which was an unprecedented step in the study of space, as reported by the publication on the arXiv portal.

To conduct this scan, the team used the Wide Field Radio Telescope located at the Murchison Radio Astronomy Observatory in Western Australia.

Previously, the search for extraterrestrial intelligence focused on signals coming from our galaxy. However, the new approach is aimed at studying more distant galactic systems, where, according to scientists, supercivilizations may exist that are significantly superior to humanity in terms of development.

The researchers emphasized that the transmission of an intergalactic signal would require energy equivalent to the energy of one or more stars.

Although the first scan failed to detect alien signals as predicted, the data obtained will help better focus further searches, scientists believe.
