Google delays launch of Gemini neural network until January։ What is the reason?

Google has announced the decision to delay the launch of its latest AI system, Gemini, to January 2024. The initial plan was to launch the GPT-4 neural network next week. The reason for this decision is the need to improve the neural network's performance with non-English language queries.

At the annual I/O 2023 conference, Google introduced its cutting-edge AI model, Gemini, which was developed with the involvement of Google and Alphabet co-founder Sergey Brin. According to information from The Information, the company intended to unveil Gemini next week as part of events in California, New York, and Washington, targeting policymakers and legislators. However, the launch of the neural network is now postponed until January next year.

The decision to postpone the launch of the innovative AI system was made by Google's CEO, Sundar Pichai. The insufficiently reliable interaction of Gemini with non-English language queries was the reason behind this decision. Multilingual support is a priority for Google as it aims to achieve and even surpass the level of the GPT-4 AI model by OpenAI. According to sources, Google has already reached this standard in some aspects. In November, Pichai stated that Google is focused on the swift release of Gemini 1.0, striving to create a competitive and advanced product. However, the company is still working on the final version of Gemini.

Earlier, at the I/O 2023 conference, Google noted that Gemini would possess impressive multimodal capabilities, surpassing the capabilities of previous AI models. In addition to understanding text and images, Gemini will be focused on effective integration with APIs and other tools, making it attractive to developers of various applications. Google also announced the development of several variants of Gemini, including the mobile version Gecko, emphasizing that Gemini is designed to support future innovations, including memory and planning functions.
