What dangers can feature phones from unknown manufacturers conceal?

Feature phones, contrary to popular myths, are not the most secure devices: they can pose serious threats to the security of user data, especially if they are developed by unknown manufacturers. This was reported by Lenta.ru with reference to Dmitry Sakov, head of the testing laboratory group of the League of Digital Economy.

Security threat

Dmitry Sakov noted that modern smartphones are equipped with more advanced security systems, while older feature phones do not support the installation of anti-virus software. This makes them vulnerable to various threats. In particular, cheap feature phones from unknown manufacturers may be equipped with pre-installed malware.

These programs can use the user's SIM card to send paid SMS messages or to copy incoming messages to external numbers or insecure servers on the Internet. Such actions can lead to theft of the user's personal data and financial losses.

Risks of phishing attacks

Owners of feature phones may also encounter phishing attacks similar to those aimed at smartphone users. Fraudsters can send SMS with codes from personal accounts of banks or government services and use psychological pressure in telephone conversations to force users to reveal their personal data.

According to the specialist, feature phones, like smartphones, can also hide pre-installed malware, which poses a significant threat to data security. Users are advised to exercise caution and consider the possible risks when using such devices.
