July 12, 2024  18:25

In the test version of the WhatsApp app for Android, a feature for transcribing voice messages into text has appeared, writes the portal WABetaInfo.

The feature was added in the latest beta version 2.24.15.5 and is currently available only to a limited number of users. This means that in the foreseeable future, this useful feature may also appear in the stable version of the messenger.

Initially, the transcription of voice messages appeared in WhatsApp in May 2023, but only for users of devices based on the iOS operating system.

Currently, the feature of transcribing voice messages into text supports English, Spanish, Portuguese (Brazil), Russian, and Hindi. In the future, the developers of the messenger plan to add support for other languages. The transcription will be performed directly on the device, without the need to send the message to an external server, which enhances the security of the process.

The feature is currently available only to a limited number of users in some countries where the above languages are widely spoken or supported. It is not specified when the innovation will be available to all WhatsApp users.
