Dutch quantum processor manufacturer QuantWare announced on Monday that it has raised $178 million in a Series B round—the largest private funding in history for a company specializing exclusively in quantum processors. The capital will be used to build a high-performance chip manufacturing facility in Delft and develop a 10,000-qubit processor architecture, according to Businesswire.

The oversubscribed round included new investors Capital, IQT, and ETF Partners, alongside existing investors FORWARD.one, Invest-NL Deep Tech Fund, InnovationQuarter Capital, Ground State Ventures, and Graduate Ventures. Reuters reported that the deal reflects Europe's ambition to keep pace with the US and China in the field of quantum technology.
The raised capital will fund KiloFab, a facility QuantWare describes as the world’s largest dedicated production center for open-architecture quantum processors. It is scheduled to open this year at the company's headquarters in Delft, increasing production capacity twentyfold. The facility will produce processors based on QuantWare’s proprietary VIO-40K architecture, which utilizes 3D scaling to support 40,000 I/O lines through interconnected chiplet modules to achieve 10,000 qubits—a figure 100 times greater than current commercial systems. Shipments of VIO-40K processors are planned for 2028, with each 10,000-qubit chip estimated to cost approximately €50 million.

The Horizontal Play in the Quantum Market
Founded in 2021 as a spin-out from QuTech at Delft University of Technology by Rijlaarsdam and Alessandro Bruno, QuantWare positions itself not as a quantum computer builder, but as a horizontal supplier for the entire industry—offering proprietary QPU designs, contract manufacturing services, and chiplet packaging based on an open architecture. The company has delivered quantum processors to more than 50 clients across 20 countries, including quantum computing firms, national technology institutes, and major tech conglomerates.

The funding round comes amid a surge in quantum computing investments: according to TamRadar, sector funding grew by 374 percent year-on-year to $4.53 billion in 2025. Finnish competitor IQM raised $57 million from funds in March ahead of its planned US IPO.
