The European Commission (DG ENEST) and Firebird AI announce the signing of a declaration on strategic cooperation in the digital and energy sectors, aimed at strengthening Armenia’s position as a regional hub for technology, artificial intelligence, and sustainable infrastructure.

The parties jointly reaffirm their shared goal of advancing EU–Armenia cooperation through strategic investments in digital and energy infrastructure, in support of resilience, innovation, competitiveness, and sustainable growth.

The document was signed in Yerevan on the sidelines of the EU–Armenia summit between the Director for Enlargement and Eastern Neighbourhood at the European Commission, Adrien Király, and Firebird AI co-founder Alexander Yesayan. It reflects the parties’ shared ambition to foster cooperation in AI infrastructure and energy resilience through large-scale investments, contributing to innovation, competitiveness, and long-term economic growth.

Firebird AI has announced the creation of one of the world’s largest artificial intelligence computing centers in Armenia, based on high-performance Nvidia GPUs. The project aims to position Armenia as a global leader in AI data center capacity.

In parallel, the deployment of a battery energy storage system (BESS) with up to 1 GW capacity is planned, which will contribute to the stability of the electrical infrastructure and the integration of renewable energy sources. The European Commission recognizes and welcomes the significant impact of this initiative on Armenia’s energy system and encourages its successful preparation and implementation as a contribution to the EU–Armenia partnership.

The European Commission will consider and examine how to mobilize its financial instruments, in particular under the EFSD+, to support this initiative and ensure its alignment with EU policies.
