In today's rapidly evolving digital world, our identity has become the pillar upon which modern ecosystems are built, transactions are executed, and trust is established. But how do we balance absolute security with user convenience, and how do we overcome the fragmentation of the digital landscape? Karen Mkoyan, CEO of imID and a keynote speaker at Doing Digital Forum 2026, presents his vision.

-How is the role of identity evolving in a platform-driven world?

-Identity is shifting from being a simple verification tool to becoming the core infrastructure of digital interaction. In a platform-driven world, users no longer operate within one ecosystem: they move across many. That requires identity to be portable, reusable, and trusted across platforms. We are moving away from fragmented, platform-owned identities toward user-centric identity layers that enable seamless access, transactions, and participation in the digital economy. In this sense, identity is no longer a feature, it is the foundation on which digital ecosystems are built.

-What are the key challenges in secure and seamless digital identity today?

The main challenge is balancing security, user experience, and interoperability - all at once. Many systems today excel in one or two of these areas, but very few achieve all three. At the same time, fragmentation across standards, regulations, and technologies creates friction between systems and across borders. This fragmentation limits scalability and slows down adoption. The real need today is a unified trust layer, one that allows different platforms and economies to recognize and rely on each other’s identity systems without compromising security or usability. The main challenge is fragmentation. Today, identities are still tied to specific platforms, countries, or systems, which creates friction and limits interoperability.

At imID, we address these challenges by aligning with the eIDAS Regulation — the global benchmark for trust services — ensuring that our solutions are interoperable, secure, and recognized beyond national borders.

-How is imID positioning itself within this landscape?

-imID is positioning itself as a trust services provider, a connector between platforms, institutions, and economies. We deliver trust services such as digital identity and electronic signatures, designed to be secure, compliant, and interoperable by default.

Our goal is to enable trust across ecosystems - whether it’s between private platforms, public institutions, or cross-border services. In line with the “Bridging Platforms & Economies” theme, imID is building the trust layer that allows digital ecosystems to connect and operate seamlessly.

-What will the audience experience during your keynote “Identity. Reimagined”?

We’ll explore the transformation of identity itself — from a physical card to a fully digital, secure, and always-accessible ID. The keynote will focus on rethinking identity from a user perspective, moving from complexity to simplicity.

We will introduce two new products: the imID App, a secure, mobile-first identity and signing solution and imidsign.am, a platform designed to make digital signing intuitive and widely accessible․ The audience will see how digital identity can become invisible, intuitive, and instant, enabling everyday actions like signing documents or accessing services without friction. This shift is important because digital interactions should feel natural, not technical.

-What is the future of digital identity, and where does imID fit?

Digital identity will become the backbone of the next-generation digital economy. It will enable seamless onboarding, secure transactions, and cross-border services - fundamentally changing how individuals and businesses interact online. imID aims to play a central role in this transformation by becoming a trusted identity layer for emerging digital ecosystems. Our focus is on building solutions that make trust portable, user-centric, and scalable, so that digital participation becomes effortless for everyone.

The Doing Digital Forum, entitled “Bridging Platforms and Economies” this year, will be held on April 8 at Dvin Hall in Yerevan.
