The South Korean LG Display company has announced that it has created the world's first truly stretchable flexible screen, which can be expanded by 50%, which is the highest indicator. The manufacturer demonstrated the new screen at a meeting with industry representatives, scientists and researchers involved in projects to create stretchable screens.

The technology for creating stretchable screens is considered groundbreaking because such screens can be freely transformed into various shapes, including stretching, folding and twisting. The 12-inch screen presented by LG can be stretched up to 18 inches without compromising the quality of the transmitted image. At the same time, the pixel density of 100 ppi and the entire range of RGB colors are preserved.

Compared to the first stretchable screen prototype, which was introduced in 2022, the maximum stretch ratio of the new panel has doubled from 20% to 50%. This increase in stretchability will allow for different screen design options, potentially increasing the competitiveness of new screens as they are commercialized.

A special silicon substrate was used to create the stretchable screen, as well as a new wiring structure and a light source based on 40-micrometer micro-LEDs. This approach made it possible to create a screen that can display high-quality images even in adverse conditions, as well as be resistant to external influences, including low and high temperatures. Stretchable screens are not only thin and light, but can also be attached to curved surfaces. It is expected that such screens will be widely used in various fields of human activity.
