Two powerful M-class solar flares were recorded on the Sun: They disrupted short-wave radio communications

On August 22, scientists recorded two powerful M-class solar flares. This was reported by TASS with reference to the Institute of Applied Geophysics.

The first flare, recorded at 02:08 Yerevan time in the sunspot group 3796 (S03E28), had a power of M5.1/2N and lasted 18 minutes. Later, at 14:39, a second flare with a power of M1.5 was recorded, lasting 15 minutes. Both flares disrupted short-wave radio communications.

The day before, Mikhail Leus, a leading specialist at the Phobos weather center, said at a press conference dedicated to magnetic storms that the Sun is in a stage of increasing its activity, which will lead to an increase in the number of magnetic storms.

Boris Filippov, chief researcher at the N.V. Pushkov Institute of Terrestrial Magnetism, Ionosphere and Radio Wave Propagation of the Russian Academy of Sciences, emphasized that the Earth’s geomagnetic field protects life on the planet from the harmful effects of solar flares and magnetic storms.
