Error in new version of WhatsApp: Users advised to uninstall latest version of messenger

An unpleasant bug was discovered in the latest version of the WhatsApp messenger on Android, due to which users cannot send videos that they themselves filmed in chats. 9to5Google drew attention to user complaints on forums and social networks.

“After hearing of the issue, we have since tested and experienced the same problem with video files not being sent as expected over the past 24 hours. A pop-up message will appear reading: “Can’t send this video. Choose a different video and try again.” Annoyingly, this persists and the message will only appear after attempting to process the video file within WhatsApp. Photos and other filetypes don’t seem to struggle.” the authors of the publication write.

Interestingly, the problem only affects videos shot on a smartphone, while other videos are sent without problems. Sometimes the bug can also appear when trying to send a video downloaded from Instagram. However, it is not yet known whether sending the video as a document (without compression) will lead to the same problem.

It is believed that the bug appeared with the update of WhatsApp on Android to version 2.24.9.34. The only temporary solution until the developers release a fix is to uninstall the latest version of the messenger and install the earlier version 2.24.8.85.

The WhatsApp development team has so far commented on this situation.
