The popular social network TikTok has begun testing a new feature that allows users to upload videos up to one hour long.

According to the TechCrunch portal, at the moment, only some users will be able to upload long videos. Pilot testing will allow TikTok developers to gauge audience reaction and the effectiveness of the new feature before its wider launch.

Initially, the maximum length of TikTok videos was only 15 seconds. However, over time this limit increased. ByteDance explains this as a desire to compete with giants such as YouTube and attract content creators to its platform, who usually post their videos there.

According to ByteDance representatives, the new video format will open up great opportunities for the creators of cooking shows, comedians, teachers and other users. Now they won't have to split their videos into multiple parts to meet time limits. In addition, full versions of television shows may appear on the platform.

TikTok's new feature that allows you to upload long-form videos could significantly change the nature of content on the platform and attract new users. If testing is successful, this feature will become available to a wider audience, which in turn could change the dynamics of TikTok usage and strengthen its position in the social media market.
