Apple updates its list of obsolete and vintage devices: What are those devices?

April 2, 2024  16:30

Apple has updated its official list of obsolete and vintage devices, including some older iPhone and iPad models. This was reported by MacRumors.

In particular, Apple has declared the iPhone 6 Plus as obsolete. This means that Apple Stores and authorized Apple service providers will no longer offer repairs or other services for the device. Apple deems a product obsolete seven years after it has been discontinued.

Apple released the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus in September 2014. Key features of the devices included larger screens compared to previous models and support for Apple Pay. While Apple discontinued the iPhone 6 Plus in September 2016, the iPhone 6 remained available from resellers in some countries for several more years, so it has not yet been considered "obsolete." However, software support for the smartphones ended in 2019 with the release of iOS 13.

Additionally, Apple has added the fourth-generation iPad mini to its list of vintage devices. It has been over five years since the company ceased sales of this model. Apple Stores and authorized Apple service providers will continue to offer repairs for vintage products for an additional two years, subject to parts availability.
