A rather powerful magnetic storm of class G2 has begun on Earth. This was reported by Mikhail Leus, a leading specialist at the Phobos weather center, on his Telegram channel.

According to him, the storm of medium intensity (level two on a five-point scale) began after 3:00 Moscow time (4:00 Yerevan time). Leus also noted that the storm is likely to be short-lived and its intensity will not increase.

Interestingly, forecasts for the evening of August 27 predicted only weak fluctuations in the geomagnetic field, not reaching the level of magnetic storms. This became another example of the imperfection of forecasts of such models.

Earlier, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences Boris Filippov, chief researcher at the N.V. Pushkov Institute of Terrestrial Magnetism, Ionosphere and Radio Wave Propagation of the Russian Academy of Sciences, recalled that the geomagnetic field plays an important role in protecting life on Earth from the harmful effects of solar activity, including flares and magnetic storms. According to him, magnetic storms have a more serious impact on people than solar flares themselves.

Recall that on August 11, there was a magnetic storm of class G1 (weak) on Earth, and earlier, on August 4, as a result of explosions registered on the Sun several days before, the magnetic storm that hit Earth intensified, reaching level G3.
