A new high-speed train using magnetic levitation has been tested in China, which can travel faster than civil airplanes, at a speed of up to 1000 km/h, reports the Chinese Xinhua agency.
The tests took place in the city of Datong, Shaanxi province in the north of the country. To test the train, a 2 km long tube was built, in which low vacuum conditions were created, a pressure significantly lower than atmospheric pressure.
It is noted that during the tests, the train was able to perform controlled navigation, demonstrate braking stability and make a safe stop in accordance with the given curved trajectory.
In the future, such a train will be able to develop a speed of up to 1000 km/h, faster than civilian airplanes. In the future, it is planned to connect Chinese megacities with such vacuum tubes, as a result of which it will be possible to get from Beijing to Shanghai in about 1.5 hours, while now it takes about 4 hours.
The project is overseen by the China Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation (CASIC).
