Great chansonnier of Armenian origin, Charles Aznavour, was interested not only in music: few people know that modern technology and innovation were also his passion. The chansonnier’s son, co-founder of the Aznavour Foundation, Nicolas Aznavour, spoke about this.

“My father saw technology and innovation as tools to create and find new ideas,” he noted, speaking at the opening of the National Supercomputer Center of Armenia in the engineering city.

According to Nicolas Aznavour, the famous chansonnier was in fact one of the early adopters in the field of computer technology: back in the 1980s, he got a computer, which he used to write and record music in his studio.

“I cherish the memories of us exploring electronic shops in Tokyo together, searching for the latest and greatest devices. His passion has turned me into a computer nerd myself and probably has guided me into following a scientific career in my early years,” said Aznavour’s son.

He also noted that his father would certainly not only be flattered by the decision to name the first supercomputer in Armenia in his honor, but would also certainly be inspired by this initiative.

“I hope that this supercomputer will empower students and researchers to achieve significant breakthroughs in their respective fields just as my father made a remarkable contribution to the arts and humanities,” said Nicolas Aznavour.

On May 31, the “National Supercomputer Center of Armenia” named after Charles Aznavour opened in the engineering city in Yerevan, Armenia. The center is creating the latest infrastructure in which it will be possible to conduct research and calculations in the fields of industry, education and science.
