Apple is set to invest a staggering sum of nearly $1 billion to develop its own version of ChatGPT utilizing Ajax's generative artificial intelligence. This sensational revelation comes courtesy of Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman in his latest newsletter, Power On.

According to Gurman, Apple has already formed a specialized division internally, diligently working on the integration and advancement of artificial intelligence. This division is led by seasoned experts such as John Giannandrea, Craig Federighi, and Eddie Cue.

Giannandrea plays a pivotal role in the project, with his team responsible for crafting the fundamental AI technologies and upgrading the Siri virtual assistant to enable more efficient interactions with neural networks. Federighi's group is focused on integrating AI features into the upcoming version of the iOS operating system, while Cue's team is dedicated to infusing artificial intelligence into iOS applications like Apple Music, Pages, Keynote, and many others.

Gurman reports that Apple is currently engaged in substantial deliberations regarding the method of integrating artificial intelligence into Apple's devices. The question at hand is whether to rely on cloud computing or harness the computational capabilities of Apple's own devices, including smartphones, tablets, and computers. According to the journalist, a hybrid scenario is also under consideration, where certain tasks are executed locally on the devices, while others are processed on remote servers.

It is worth noting that Apple was caught off guard by the sudden success of Microsoft's ChatGPT and Google's Bard. Within the company, it is acknowledged as a significant misstep that they were unable to respond swiftly to the explosive growth in the popularity of this technology. Now, Apple is making determined efforts and significant investments to develop its proprietary version of artificial intelligence, aiming to secure competitiveness and foster innovation.
