iPhone users can now login into WhatsApp without password

The WhatsApp administration has announced the rollout of support for passkey login into the app's version for Apple iOS. When this feature is enabled, users can log into their accounts through biometric authentication — Face ID or Touch ID — or by entering their phone's password.

Access key login was introduced in WhatsApp for Android as far back as October of last year, and it wasn't until January that this capability was added to the app's beta version for iPhone. Now, the feature is beginning to roll out to all iOS users — the messaging app's administration aims to cover the entire platform audience "in the coming weeks."

It is anticipated that access key technology will become a relatively secure authentication option, replacing passwords and SMS-based two-factor authentication. The technology also allows for logging in when the device is not connected to the internet. Users can check access key support on their specific device in the app's settings.

With the introduction of this new login method, users will retain the ability to log into WhatsApp on other platforms by scanning a QR code in the smartphone app — it remains the primary method for the account, prioritized over clients for Windows and macOS, as well as the web version of the service.
