A solar flare of the highest class, X2.0, occurred on the Sun, marking it as the most powerful flare of 2025 to date. According to data from the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy at the Space Research Institute (IKI) and the Institute of Solar-Terrestrial Physics (ISZF) of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the flare was recorded at 23:20 Yerevan time. The last event of this magnitude was observed in December 2024.
Will It Affect Earth?
Experts state that the flare occurred on the western edge of the Sun, making its potential impact on Earth minimal. The geomagnetic situation remains stable, with a very low risk of heavy charged particles reaching our planet.
Solar Activity Continues to Rise
Scientists have noted that solar activity began to surge sharply less than 24 hours ago and shows no signs of slowing down. Additionally, on February 23, another medium-class (M) flare was recorded on the Sun, signaling a continued increase in activity.
Experts do not rule out the possibility of additional flares and plasma ejections in the near future.
