This year, flagship smartphones will become more expensive due to the increase in the price of high-end chips and memory devices, as reported by the iXBT website, said Wang Teng Thomas, the general manager of the Redmi brand.
According to Thomas, leading chips made using the 3-nanometer process have become significantly more expensive than their predecessors. In addition, memory device prices were much lower at the end of last year than they are now.
During the Xiaomi 14's official launch last year, Xiaomi founder Lei Jun announced that it was the latest flagship, starting at 3,999 yuan (about $558). He emphasized that Xiaomi is committed to creating better smartphones, which will lead to an increase in their price.
Thus, the next generation of the brand's flagship smartphones, Xiaomi 15 and Redmi K80, will be more expensive than their predecessors. How much their price will change has not yet been mentioned.
According to iXBT, perhaps this announcement primarily refers to smartphones intended for the Chinese market, where the devices are sold significantly cheaper than in the global market.
