Chinese startup AeroHT has announced that the Xpeng X2 flying machine has successfully flown over the Xiang River in Changsha, Hunan Province. The car left the left bank of the river and landed in Zhoutou Square, traveling a distance of 1.5 km and spending 4 minutes in the air.

AeroHT was founded in 2013 with the financial support of He Xiaopeng, CEO of XPeng. The X2 was originally announced as the Voyager 2, but according to the official website, it is now called the Xpeng X2.

When unfolded, the Xpeng X2 is 5172 x 5124 x 1362mm in size and 4949 x 2113 x 2055mm when folded. The weight of the car is 680 kg, the maximum payload capacity is 160 kg. This is a two-seater car, so it can carry two passengers weighing up to 80 kg each. The car is built mainly from carbon materials.

Unlike most conventional drones, which have four engines, the Voyager X2 is an octocopter; each wing has a pair of engine and propellers, which provide extra power and increases reliability in the event of an engine failure. If several engines fail at once, the built-in parachute is activated.

The Xpegn X2 can stay in the air for up to 25 minutes. According to the company, the production version, which will hit the market in 2025, will be able to cover more distance.

According to AeroHT, this is the first time a flying car has flown over a river, marking an important milestone in the development of flying car technology. However, before flying across the river, the Xpeng X2 completed nearly 4,000 test flights.

AeroHT CEO and founder Zhao Deli previously said that the price of this car will range from $110,000 to $200,000.
