New WhatsApp feature: soon it will be possible to create and share video call links

September 27, 2022  20:39

WhatsApp has announced a new feature called Call Links, which allows inviting users to join a group call using a link, and it can be a video call as well as a voice conversation.

Until now, users could only add other users to current video calls or initiate video calls from pre-created groups. The new feature makes it possible to invite any interlocutor to a conversation on WhatsApp, even if s/he is not in your contact list. The interlocutor who receives the link will simply have to click on it to get into a video or voice chat.

The new feature is not available to everyone yet, but Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg says everyone will be able to use it within the current week. You will have to install the latest version of WhatsApp, go to the Calls tab and create a link there to send it to your contacts.

Zuckerberg also said that the company is also testing secure encrypted video communication with up to 32 people.

The described feature is already available in Zoom and Google Meet. However, unlike Zoom or FaceTime, WhatsApp users cannot yet create call schedules.
