Which Microsoft Surface devices might be coming out soon and what do we know about them?

September 24, 2022  11:39

The Surface Pro 9 tablet and Surface Laptop 5 are likely to be officially revealed during Microsoft's October 12 event. The Surface Go 4, on the other hand, is unlikely to be seen at this event, and the laptop is unlikely to be released before 2023.

What do we know about these devices?

Microsoft Surface Pro 9

The isn’t enough information about the new device and its possible characteristics in the network, so we can only guess what characteristics it will have.

There is an opinion that Microsoft will release three versions of tablets – with Intel and Qualcomm processors and with the following specifications:

  • Intel Core i7-1255U: 8-core, 12-threaded, clocked up to 4.7 GHz, Iris Xe 1.25 GHz graphics, TDP 15-55 W, Intel Alder Lake architecture.
  • Intel Core i5-1235U: 8-core, 12-threaded, clocked up to 4.4GHz, Iris Xe 1.2GHz graphics, 15-55W TDP, Intel Alder Lake architecture.
  • Microsoft SQ3: based on Qualcomm Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3.

Experts expect the single-core performance of models based on Intel processors to be about 12-22% higher than that of the Surface Pro 8. Not much is known about the SQ3 yet, but Qualcomm assures that the Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 is 85% faster than the Gen 2.

Surface-Pro-8

All models are rumored to get 13.5-inch displays and will support up to 16GB of RAM. Drives will likely range from 256GB to 1TB.

The Microsoft Surface Pro 9 is expected to cost from $1,299 (i5 model with 8GB RAM and 256GB SSD) in the U.S. The exact price of the device will likely be announced during the October event.

Microsoft Surface Laptop 5

According to rumors, Microsoft is planning to release a line of Surface Laptop 5, which will include models equipped with 13.5 and 15-inch screens and processors Intel Core 12th generation (Core i5-1235U or i7-1255U) and AMD Ryzen 6000.

Experts expect prices for 13.5-inch models to start at €1,200 ($1170), while 15-inch models will cost €1,500 ($1,463) or more.

Microsoft Surface Go 4

Perhaps the new Surface Go tablet will use a next-generation ARM processor. At the very least, many users would be happy about such a decision. However, it is possible that Microsoft will stop at Alder Lake and Raptor Lake 13th generation.

Surface-Go-3

The device is also expected to be thinner than the Surface Go 3, and the 1920×1080 PixelSense (LCD) screen is unlikely to change.

As for pricing, the Surface Go 2 and 3 cost nearly $399.99, and the new model will probably have a higher price.
