Why is iPhone 14 release plan cut by 3 million?

November 7, 2022  20:51

By the end of the year Apple will release at least 3 million fewer iPhone 14 smartphones than originally planned.

According to Bloomberg's sources, the number of smartphones planned for release until the end of the year the iPhone 14 series has been reduced from 90 million to 87 million units. And analysts at SMBC Nikko estimate that Apple will be able to release 85 million smartphones this year instead of the originally planned 91 million.

Although the company has problems with the Zhengzhou plant, which was closed for quarantine due to an outbreak of coronovirus, the main reason for the reduction in the number of smartphones produced is the low demand for the iPhone 14 (first in the world, and then - and in China, which was one of the key markets for the company) and iPhone 14 Plus.

However, the role of problems with production should not be underestimated either. With demand for the above models declining, demand for the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max has increased, and it looks like Apple can't meet that demand, which also points to manufacturing issues.

Apple has faced a number of problems in recent months that could seriously affect the company's future operations.

The situation could change for the better with the iPhone 15 series, which is expected next year. If the smartphones from this series can interest consumers and have good sales, the company's business is likely to go up again. If the new devices turn out to be as the iPhone 14, then Apple's business will continue to deteriorate.
