iPhone 16 may get colored matte glass back panel, 7 colors

The new iPhone 16 may be equipped with the same colored matte glass used in the standard iPhone 15 models. MacRumors reports this, citing Chinese sources.

Last year, Apple introduced a special dual ion-exchange glass technology on the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus, coated with nanocrystalline particles, which gives the back layer of glass a matte effect that contrasts with the color of the main frame.

This is how Apple described this technology:

“For the first time in a smartphone, color is infused throughout the back glass, creating five beautiful colors. The back glass is strengthened with an optimized dual-ion exchange process before being polished with nanocrystalline particles and etched to create a luxurious, textured matte finish.”

According to an insider with the nickname Fixed focus digital, Apple will use the same process to create the back glass in the new iPhone 16 models, but there will now be 7 colors instead of 5.

There is also talk about a possible change in the location of the cameras from diagonal to vertical: now their design will be similar to the iPhone X or iPhone 12.

The iPhone 16 is expected to launch around mid-September.
