The Sun has unleashed its most significant plasma cloud ejection of the year so far, an event captured on video. Specialists from the Solar Astronomy Laboratory at the Space Research Institute (IKI) of the Russian Academy of Sciences announced this in their Telegram channel.

The ejection was recorded by space coronagraphs between 02:00 and 10:00 Yerevan time. Following this, the plasma cloud moved away from the Sun and exited the observation range of the instruments.

Possible Source of the Ejection

Experts suggest that the ejection may have originated from an active region on the Sun linked to a recent powerful X2.0-class flare that occurred on February 23. If this hypothesis holds, the source is located on the far side of the Sun, posing no threat to Earth.

A Reminder of the Recent X2.0 Flare

As a recap, a potent X2.0 solar flare was recorded on February 23, peaking at 22:20 Moscow time. The last similar event occurred over two months ago, on December 8, 2024. Despite its intensity, the flare did not disrupt the geomagnetic environment, which remained stable and within the “green zone.”
