Meizu held a presentation for its new smartphone, the Lucky 08, which the company has been referring to as an "AI flagship" since its announcement, although the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 chipset used in the phone is not a flagship one. The new model offers an unconventional design for Meizu, combined with solid technical specifications.
The smartphone features a 6.78-inch LTPO OLED display with 1.5K resolution, a refresh rate of up to 144 Hz, and a punch hole for the front camera. The screen has a peak brightness of 5000 nits. PWM brightness control at 2160 Hz allows prolonged use without straining the eyes. The bezels around the display are 1.75 mm thick.
The rear panel of the phone has an atypical circular camera module for Meizu, containing two lenses and a flash. The main camera uses a 1/1.67-inch Samsung S5KHM6s sensor with a resolution of 108 MP. The macro camera has a 2 MP resolution, while the front camera is 8 MP.
The Meizu Lucky 08 comes with a 6000 mAh battery. The device supports 33W fast wired charging. According to the manufacturer, the smartphone can provide two full days of use on a single charge.
The updated Flyme AIOS software offers more than 100 AI features, such as smart search, automatic call answering, and music recognition. The red power button on the side of the phone now also functions as an AI interaction key.
The phone is equipped with an NFC module and an infrared port, allowing it to be used as an IR remote control. The device is offered in two "space-inspired" color options — Meteorite Black and Star White.
The Meizu Lucky 08 with 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage is priced by the manufacturer at 1,599 yuan ($230), while the version with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage costs 1,799 yuan ($255), and the 12 GB RAM and 512 GB storage version is priced at 2,099 yuan ($300). Pre-orders begin on September 25.
