At its annual Made by Google event, the search giant introduced new hardware and software, including the Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL smartphones, as well as the Pixel Watch 3 smartwatch. The event also saw the unveiling of the foldable Pixel 9 Pro Fold, which features a larger screen compared to last year's model and several other improvements.
Visually, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold closely resembles the original Pixel Fold. The most noticeable hardware change is the increase in the size of the main display when unfolded. While last year's Pixel Fold had a 7.6-inch screen, the new Pixel 9 Pro Fold boasts an 8-inch panel. By comparison, the Samsung Galaxy Fold 6 has a 7.6-inch main screen when unfolded. This change allows Google's new device to claim the title of having the largest display among foldable smartphones.
The main OLED display of the Pixel 9 Pro Fold has a resolution of 2152 × 2076 pixels, a pixel density of 373 PPI, and a variable refresh rate of up to 120 Hz, offering a maximum brightness of 2700 nits. The external display has also grown in size, increasing from 5.8 inches to 6.3 inches. It supports a resolution of 2424 × 1080 pixels, has a pixel density of 422 PPI, and is protected from mechanical damage by Gorilla Glass Victus 2. Additionally, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold is slightly thinner than its predecessor.

The device's main camera is housed in a large module that protrudes from the body. It combines a 48-megapixel wide-angle sensor with a 10.5-megapixel ultra-wide sensor and a 10.8-megapixel telephoto lens with 5x optical zoom and 20x zoom through the Super Res Zoom feature. The camera supports 4K video recording at up to 60 frames per second. There are also two 10 MP front cameras.
The Pixel 9 Pro Fold is powered by Google's new octa-core Tensor G4 processor, paired with 16 GB of RAM and 256 or 512 GB of storage. The device is powered by a 4650 mAh battery.

The Pixel 9 Pro Fold supports Google's proprietary AI features, with the Gemini algorithm now powering the voice assistant. The smartphone comes with a one-year subscription to Google One AI Premium, which unlocks advanced Gemini neural network capabilities, adds an AI assistant to Gmail and Docs, and provides 2 TB of Google cloud storage. The company promises to provide OS and feature updates for seven years.
The Pixel 9 Pro Fold runs on Android 14. Its retail price will be $1799 for the 256 GB version and $1919 for the 512 GB version.
