Huawei has launched the Nova Flip foldable phone with a square screen, an advanced rear camera, a durable battery and a new design. Huawei states that the new device has received the first Swiss SGS certification in the industry, guaranteeing 1.2 million opening and closing cycles. The phone uses a teardrop basalt hinge that significantly reduces the gap between the two components and provides a completely flat screen when unfolded.
The new product is built on the Kirin 8000 chipset, which includes one Cortex-A78 core with a frequency of up to 2.4 GHz, three Cortex-A78 cores with a frequency of up to 2.189 GHz and four Cortex-A510 cores with a frequency of up to 1.84 GHz. The graphics processor is Mali-G610 with a frequency of 864 MHz. All versions of the phone will have 12 GB of RAM, 256 GB, 512 GB or 1 TB of built-in memory.
The main OLED screen has a 6.94-inch diagonal with a resolution of 2690 × 1136 pixels and an adaptive refresh rate of 1-120 Hz. It has support for proprietary SuperMotion and SuperVision image enhancement technologies with AI Image HDR and Touch Turbo 4.0 for precise touch feedback. The external OLED display is 2.14 inches with a resolution of 480 x 480 pixels and provides a P3 color gamut.
Huawei Nova Flip received a dual rear camera unit with a 50MP RYYB main camera with f/1.9 aperture and an 8MP wide-angle module with a 112-degree viewing angle and f/2.2 aperture. Photo capabilities are rounded off with 10x digital zoom and a macro mode.
The selfie camera with a 32 MP sensor (f/2.2 aperture) provides portrait, panorama, simultaneous shooting modes and voice control. The Da Vinci Portrait Engine 2.0 software allows you to create portraits by "intelligently optimizing shape, color, texture, light and image to make the shape of the face three-dimensional." The owner has at his disposal a number of filters, as well as the ability to shoot at night and take photos with timers.
Dual-SIM Super Acceleration technology with weak signal boosting mode ensures high download and upload speeds. Nova Flip is equipped with a non-removable battery with a silicon anode with a capacity of 4400 mAh. It has support for 66W fast charging (11V and 6A) and Turbo 2.0 technology, which extends battery life. The length of the Nova Flip is 169.77 mm when unfolded and 87.76 mm when folded. The width of the phone is 75.4 mm, and the thickness and weight depends on the variant.
- Leather version: 15.08 mm folded, 6.88 mm unfolded, weight: 195 grams.
- Glass panel version: 15.12 mm folded and 6.9 mm unfolded, weight: 199 grams.
The device is offered in four colors: New Green, Zero White, Sakura Pink and Starry Black.
The smartphone runs HarmonyOS 4.2 and offers several artificial intelligence tools for shooting and communication, including control of the quad external screen and retouching and image editing functions that allow to delete unwanted objects or crop a certain part of an image.
Huawei Nova Flip is designed for young users, so the manufacturer offers a number of functions to personalize the device:
- Call Fun Display. The external display will show animated lights during the call. Users can define different styles or templates for this feature.
- Cute Pet. Users can apply "panda or pets that show funny animations on the external screen".
- Custom Style. The user can create his own photo, change the clock, fonts or simply choose the color of the wallpaper on the home screen.
- Interactive topics. User can install fun wallpapers like Star Maze, Astronauts, Mini Games and more.
Nova Flip lets you access apps from the external screen using widgets for quick launch. Huawei has also integrated the Live Window feature for the external display. Celia voice assistant has become more efficient in Nova Flip. It will help users with a wide range of topics, from skin care tips and travel planning to editing documents and spreadsheets.
Huawei Nova Flip is released in three price options:
- Nova Flip (12 GB/ 256 GB) - 5288 yuan (about $740)
- Nova Flip (12 GB/512 GB) - 5688 yuan (about $800)
- Nova Flip (12 GB/1 TB) - 6488 yuan (about $910)
Pre-orders for the smartphone are being accepted starting today, and the new product will hit retail stores in China on August 9.
