If your smartphone gets wet, you can try to evaporate the liquid by warming up the device with the help of resource-intensive programs. An expert on hardware and gadgets, a teacher at the Moscow School of Programmers (MSP) Kirill Sitnov shared this tip.

“When water enters the smartphone, you must immediately open all exit routes for it. Since modern smartphones cannot remove the battery and the back panel cannot be removed, at least take out the SIM card tray. Next, you need to run a program that warms up your chip to the maximum, such as AnTuTu Benchmark or 3DMark. So most of the liquid will be able to evaporate from your device,” said the specialist in an interview with Gazeta.Ru.

He does not recommend using external heating devices to dry the smartphone, as it requires a high temperature to evaporate moisture from it, and this can damage the battery and other components.

If you want to protect your smartphone from water during your vacation (at the sea, on the river, and so on), you can use special cases for this, resembling waterproof bags with a zipper in their design.

“If sand gets into the smartphone, you can use the built-in function to clean the speaker from water (on iOS, the Water Eject utility) or download a special application. When this function is launched, the smartphone will start emitting powerful rhythmic beeps, and you need to make shaking movements,” Sitnov said.

If grains of sand are stuck in the phone connectors, the specialist advises trying to gently clean them with a toothpick. However, metal sticks should never be used for this, as contacts can be accidentally shorted or damaged. When cleaning from sand, you should not make an effort, you should remove the gerbils with gentle sweeping movements.

“If it doesn’t work out, then it’s better to contact the service so as not to aggravate the situation by breaking the connector,” Sitnov said.
