WhatsApp introduces new feature that will convert voice messages into text

WhatsApp messenger will soon introduce a new feature that will convert voice messages into text. The feature is currently mentioned in the beta version of WhatsApp 23.3.0.73 for iOS devices.

According to Wabetainfo.com, WhatsApp developers announced their intention to create a feature to convert messages to text back in 2021. However, it later became known that the development of this tool has been suspended for unknown reasons. Apparently, work on the feature has now resumed, as it is mentioned again in the beta version of the iOS app.

The new feature is still in development, and it is unknown when it will become publicly available. WhatsApp representatives have not made an official statement about the new feature.

However, some users have managed to find a window in the interface of the app, which displays an explanation when the voice-to-text feature is not available. For example, the app can't do it if it doesn't recognize spoken words or if the app doesn't have the necessary language pack. The voice-to-text conversion process is performed locally on the user's device thanks to language packs that need to be downloaded separately.

During the processing the data is not transmitted to third-party servers, so the privacy of user information is not violated.

WhatsApp has recently added a number of new features. The beta version of the app launched a new feature that allows a single user account to be used from multiple devices.

Later last fall, the messenger launched another feature through which users can now send messages to themselves on WhatsApp. The app is also testing another "Picture-in-Picture" feature, which allows users to use other apps for video calls.

In January of this year, the messenger announced that a number of new features would be launched in 2023, such as data transfer between Android devices, recording complaints, saving disappearing messages, connecting to WhatsApp through a proxy server, recovering deleted messages, and more.
