Apple receives temporary permission to resume Watch sales in the US

Apple has achieved a temporary reprieve of the ban on sales of its smartwatches in the United States. A federal appeals court has ordered a stay of the import and sales ban that went into effect earlier this week until U.S. Customs and Border Protection issues a final decision in the case.

Apple asked Customs and Border Protection to allow the import of updated versions of the Watch Series 9 and Watch Ultra 2. An official decision on this issue must be made before January 12: the agency must decide whether the changes that the company has made to the watch are sufficient. their smartwatches so that they can be re-supplied in the US. Until this point, Apple may temporarily resume sales of these watch models. However, it is not yet known what changes the company has made to this smartwatch to comply with the requirements.

The sales ban was introduced in connection with a patent dispute between Apple and medical device manufacturer Masimo, which accused Apple of violating its patents on technology for measuring blood oxygen levels. The US International Trade Commission previously decided to ban sales of these Apple Watch models in the US. However, this ban does not affect sales of the budget Apple Watch SE model, since it does not have the function of measuring blood oxygen levels.
