Huawei Mate 50 Pro: World's best camera phone?

The Huawei Mate 50 Pro may be the world's best camera phone: the experts at DxOMark Lab tested the smartphone's camera, and it came in first place in the global ranking with a score of 149 points.

The DXOMARK staff describe themselves as experts in evaluating image, display, sound, and battery quality. They regularly test various devices to reveal their true capabilities.

The Honor Magic4 Ultimate and Google Pixel 7 Pro smartphones ranked second and third, both scoring 147 points each. The iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, which each scored 146 points, shared fourth and fifth place.

Testing of the first-place Huawei Mate 50 Pro showed that, thanks to a combination of good hardware and careful software tuning, the smartphone's camera has excellent capabilities: it can shoot high-quality photos and videos in all lighting conditions and really stands out from the competition with its low-light performance.

The advantages of the Huawei Mate 50 Pro camera, according to DXOMARK:

  • Wide dynamic range for photos and videos;
  • The resulting images are rich in detail;
  • Noise is perfectly controlled;
  • Great depth of field in group shots in bright light;
  • Details are kept in place at all zoom ranges;
  • Eye-pleasing bokeh effect;
  • Autofocus in photos and video is generally fast and accurate;
  • Pleasant colors in bright light;
  • Residual motion image is well controlled in video mode.

Disadvantages of the Huawei Mate 50 Pro:

  • Sometimes you can notice a little white balance distortion;
  • In difficult scenes, you can see differences between the preview and the final image;
  • In difficult scenes, the shooting sometimes slows down a little;
  • You can often see a difference in sharpness between video frames.
