Apple is preparing a major upgrade for the MacBook Pro lineup—according to The Elec, a new model with an OLED display and redesigned form factor is set to debut in 2026. Apple engineers are already working to make the laptop thinner and more modern.

What Will Change in the 2026 MacBook Pro?

The biggest innovation will be a hybrid OLED panel, offering better brightness, contrast, and energy efficiency compared to current mini-LED screens. A similar technology is already used in the latest iPad Pro models.

Samsung Display is currently producing test samples of OLED panels for the MacBook Pro at its latest 8th-generation production line, launched in November 2024. Analysts predict Apple will order 3 to 5 million OLED panels per year, which is only half of Samsung's total annual production capacity (equivalent to 10 million 14.3-inch screens).

So far, the project has received an investment of around $3 billion, and Samsung Display is considering attracting additional clients. Meanwhile, China's BOE is developing its own hybrid OLED displays, which will support both hybrid and flexible screen production.

What About the 2025 MacBook Pro?

Well-known analysts Ming-Chi Kuo and Ross Young state that in 2025, Apple will continue using mini-LED displays for the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models. Mark Gurman (Bloomberg) also doesn’t expect major changes—according to him, Apple will launch MacBook Pro models with M5, M5 Pro, and M5 Max chips in 2025 but without a significant redesign.

Thus, the OLED MacBook Pro will be the biggest upgrade in years, but users will have to wait until 2026.
