Apple is nearing completion in selecting key suppliers for foldable displays for its upcoming flexible iPhone, according to the Korean portal yeux1122.

The company has set strict requirements for:

  • Screen thickness and size
  • Curvature radius
  • Durability and crease resistance

Some manufacturers have already come close to meeting these standards. The final selection of suppliers is expected to be completed between late February and early April.

Estimates for the foldable iPhone’s launch vary, with projections placing its debut between 2025 and 2027. However, The Information is confident that Apple will release its foldable flip phone in 2026.

Apple Shuts Down Smart Glasses Project

Apple has discontinued the development of AR glasses due to technological and cost-related challenges.

According to Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman, Apple halted the project at an early stage because:

  • The glasses were meant to be a lightweight alternative to the Vision Pro
  • The device connected to a Mac instead of functioning independently
  • They looked like regular glasses but featured built-in projectors for displaying images and videos
  • One unique feature was automatic lens tint adjustment

Apple initially envisioned the glasses as a mass-market product, since Vision Pro was too expensive and had limited availability. However, the company failed to develop them at an acceptable price and ultimately decided to cancel the project.

Originally, Apple planned to make the glasses an accessory for the iPhone, but battery drain issues led them to link the device to Mac instead. However, internal tests failed to meet expectations, and the company’s leadership did not approve further development.
