Apple has submitted a document to the United States Patent and Trademark Office describing the selfie camera technology under the surface of the iPhone screen. The document was discovered by the Patently Apple portal.
According to the patent images, the aforesaid technology shall ensure the accurate operation of cameras and scanners for face recognition, which are located in the active part of the display. This will enable to increase the useful surface of the screen, depriving it of the Dynamic Island notch.
The thumbnails also show the version with a smaller cutout at the top of the screen, where only one device is hidden under the display.
According to rumors, the iPhone 17 Pro Max will have the smallest notch in the series, and the Face ID scanner will be smaller. In 2025, other models will have the "old" version of Dynamic Island. Maybe the new technology described in the patent will be a step in that direction. It is not ruled out that Apple will apply the technology described in the patent.
