Infosys founder Narayana Murthy, who arrived in Armenia to participate in the Silicon Mountains 2024 Summit and receive the RA State Award for Global Contribution to High Technology, considers it a great honor to receive this award and join the distinguished list of past laureates who have made significant contributions to the world of technology.

“This award highlights the vital role of innovation in progress, and I am excited about the potential collaboration opportunities between Armenia and the global technology community to continue to advance these efforts,” he said during a press conference held today at Viva’s headquarters.

Narayana Murthy then said that when they founded the company in 1981, they realized that a huge technological transformation was taking place in the United States. According to him, at that time, two technological revolutions were taking place in the United States. The first was the creation of minicomputers, and the second was the processing of online transactions.

He noted that it was then that they realized that these technologies would be in great demand in the near future, and there were not enough qualified specialists in the US. And they began to use the human resource available in India. Since the US and India are in different time zones, they began to use the working hours of the day in all countries. For example, when a programmer in the US was doing the work, the specialist in India would continue it, and thus they were able to achieve the fact that most of the day or the entire day was used.

"Using the direction of the Earth's rotation as a basis and utilizing the prime time hours of each country, we created the tools and technology for collaborative distributed software development," he said.

Viva CEO Armen Avetisyan said that Viva has always supported the development of the IT sector in Armenia and has been with this important initiative for 14 years. “The number of technology companies and startups in Armenia is increasing every day, which indicates significatn potential for the high-tech sector in the country. Today’s meeting is a good opportunity to capture that potential and review and rethink our vision for the future,” he said.

Deputy Minister of High-Tech Industry Ruben Simonyan, who was present at the press conference, said in his turn that "it is actually a great responsibility for Armenia to have such a state award in the field of high technology, which is awarded to talented people who have brought changes in high technology at a global level in the world."

According to him, Armenia has a vision of becoming a technologically strong country, which is reflected in the country's long-term programs and strategies. "The visit of such individuals as Mr. Murthy to Armenia is a great opportunity and pride. Unfortunately, he is in Armenia for a short time, but take advantage of all the opportunities to communicate with talented people who, using their minds and ideas, have achieved great success and brought about great changes without giving up," said the Deputy Minister.

Hovik Musayelyan, Director of Synopsis Armenia, noted that this award is exceptional not only because it raises Armenia's visibility and reputation worldwide, but also because it is a unique opportunity to host giants of the technological world and influential figures in Armenia, who interact with students and the scientific and educational community during their visits.

"This award ceremony is already 14 years old. At one time, we actually dared to have an idea of ​​how to make world legends visit Armenia every year. And, in fact, it was a brilliant example of the state and private sectors that we were able to do this. Believe me, very few believed that we could implement this idea," he said.
