Nothing has unveiled the Phone (2a) Plus, an enhanced version of the Phone (2a) that debuted in March. The new model features an upgraded hardware platform and an improved 50MP front camera, and is available in two new colors — metallic gray and updated black.
The main innovation is the Dimensity 7350 Plus single-chip platform. Essentially, this is an overclocked version of the Dimensity 7200 Pro chip, which powers the Phone (2a). The new platform was also created by MediaTek in collaboration with Nothing and will be used exclusively in the Phone (2a) Plus.
The new chip features an octa-core CPU with two Cortex-A715 cores running at 3.0 GHz and six Cortex-A510 cores running at 2.0 GHz. The GPU is the same — Mali-G610 MC4, but now it operates at 1.3 GHz. Nothing claims you can expect a 10% boost in CPU performance and a 30% increase in GPU-intensive tasks.
The second major difference in the Phone (2a) Plus is the new 50MP front camera, replacing the 32MP front camera in the Phone (2a). The new sensor supports 4K video recording at up to 30 frames per second. It is still located within the cutout of the 6.7-inch FHD+ AMOLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate. The back panel retains the same setup of a 50MP main camera and a 50MP wide-angle module.
The Phone (2a) Plus is equipped with a 5000mAh battery that supports 50W fast wired charging, slightly more than the 45W of the Phone (2a). The software platform is Nothing OS 2.6 based on Android 14, with ChatGPT integration and a new News Reporter widget that reads news aloud in the voice of Nothing CFO Tim Holbrow. This feature is also available for other Nothing phones via the Nothing Widgets app from the Google Play Store.
The Nothing Phone (2a) Plus is priced at $399 or £399 for the version with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. Pre-orders in the US and UK start today on the official website nothing.tech. The Nothing Store retail shop in London's Soho will begin offering the Phone (2a) Plus from August 3. Buyers in the US will be able to get the device from August 7 — Nothing smartphones are still distributed there as part of the beta testing program. The company will announce release dates for other markets later.
