Tecno has officially introduced their latest creation from their research and development labs today – a rollable smartphone concept known as the Phantom Ultimate. This innovative device extends horizontally, seamlessly transforming its display size from 6.55 inches to an impressive 7.11 inches within a mere 1.2 to 1.3 seconds. This marks Tecno's second concept device, bearing a striking resemblance to the Vision V, albeit without the folding mechanism.
The Phantom Ultimate boasts a cutting-edge single-drive motor system, facilitating its expansion with the simple press of a button, conveniently located on the top right side of the phone. When in its rolled-up state, it functions as a conventional 6.55-inch smartphone, with the additional screen discreetly resting on the back, functioning as an Always-On Display.
In terms of specifications, the device features a remarkable 7.11-inch On-cell LTPO AMOLED panel, boasting an impressive resolution of 2,296 x 1,596 pixels and a pixel density of 388 PPI. It offers a full 100% DCI-P3 color gamut coverage, although it's important to note that these figures are challenging to verify for a concept device.
With a thickness of 9.93 mm at its base, Tecno assures users that the Phantom Ultimate can be comfortably held in a single hand. The device incorporates protective glass for the sliding section and a textured back for enhanced grip and handling.
Regrettably, the disheartening news is that, as of now, the Phantom Ultimate remains purely a concept, with no indications of an imminent market release. Evidently, certain technological hurdles must be surmounted before rollable phones become a reality, and the timeline for achieving this remains uncertain.
Earlier, Lenovo and Motorola also presented concept products with an expandable screen. The latter presented a smartphone with an expandable screen, while Lenovo presented a laptop.
