Russia plans to make a supersonic passenger plane that will fly twice as fast as conventional passenger planes and will be called "Strij" («Стриж» in Russian), reports ixbt.com.

The new plane (that is, the production version, not the demonstration version) will get a pair of powerful engines, which will be located behind and above the plane.

The plane will be made of metal composite, and due to the special structure of aerodynamics, it will have a low level of sound impact.

The passenger capacity of the plane will be 20-25 people. With the maximum number of passengers, it will be able to fly a distance of up to 11,000 km at a speed of 1,900 km/h.

According to the website, the new plane will most likely not have a pilot and is being developed as a business jet.

The project is developed by Central Aero-Hydrodynamic Institute, named after Professor NE Zhukovsky (TsAGI).
