The first “Doing Digital Forum – Exploring Digital Future” will be held in Yerevan on 5 April to study the current trends and best practices around the digitization process in Armenia and globally, discuss failures and challenges, and outline solutions. Ahead of the forum, NEWS.am Tech organizes a series of interviews with the speakers of the forum. We had a talk with Artyom Shamtsyan, Chief Innovation and Digital Officer at Ameriabank.
How do you define digital transformation, and why do you think it's crucial for businesses and various industries today?
Digital transformation as the name suggests is all about change. The change is driven by unprecedented technological advancements, and evolving customer behavior towards digital services where customers expect availability, connectivity, convenience and speed by default. These changes bring about new business models into action and rapidly diminish viability of established business models. Therefore, the importance of this topic is paramount – organizations must either transform, re-invent themselves or risk becoming obsolete.
As a pioneer in digital transformation in the Armenian finance sector, Ameriabank is excited to join peer organizations and industry leaders at the forum and share its experience with the audience. What are some of the most significant trends or technologies driving digital transformation now and outlined in the future?
As we see AI and robotics are already disrupting entire industries. With exponential improvements of AI (compare robustness of ChatGPT 3 and 4) we see even more significant changes as well as opportunities related to data. I would like to mention also a visible disruption in software development – where low and no-code platforms enabling faster product creation and validation and reducing time-to-market substantially.
What advice would you give to entities just embarking on their digital transformation journey?
My advice is that while technology is the foundational component of digital transformation, it is just an enabler. Technology alone cannot initiate or drive transformations forward. Instead, it is people who play a crucial role in initiating and executing successful transformations. When people are aligned around a purpose they believe in, that force is unstoppable.. Thus, it is essential to focus on people by nourishing an entrepreneurial mindset by giving more autonomy and resources It is also important to re-visit the purpose of your organization, asking whether whether we creating value beyond our organization? Is our purpose compelling enough for the best people to join the team?
