iPhone 16 Pro’s Face ID to be placed under screen: When will Apple release its first foldable smartphone?

March 1, 2023  18:12

Apple will place the Face ID sensors under the screen in next year's iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max smartphones, and it is also known when the company may release its first foldable smartphone, Gadgettendency.com reports, South Korean newspaper The Elec informs, citing its sources in the supply chain.

To provide such a solution, it would be necessary for the smartphone's screen to be transparent, and it would also need to use new packaging technology, as external light would have to pass through the screen and then only reach the relevant camera sensors.

If the current trend continues, Apple may implement Face ID technology under the screen in all iPhone 17 models as early as 2025. And iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max will have a front camera under the screen in 2026.

In addition, there are reports that Apple may release its first foldable smartphone in 2025.

Earlier, reputable insider Ice Universe published a detailed rendering of the iPhone 15 Pro Max based on data in a previously leaked CAD file. From the published photos, it is clear that the iPhone 15 Pro Max will be smaller, but 0.4 mm thicker than the iPhone 14 Pro Max. Also, the edges of this smartphone will become curved, thanks to which the device will be more comfortable to hold.

Also recently, it became known that Apple does not intend to give up the budget series of its smartphones, the iPhone SE, and has already resumed work on the new iPhone of this series. The iPhone SE 4 may go into mass production in the first quarter of 2024. This smartphone will likely be similar to the iPhone 14 in many ways, both in terms of body and 6.1-inch OLED display. "Internal" changes are also likely to be minimal.
