Light introduces its minimalist style Phone 3 with black and white screen: What features does it have?

Five years after the release of its previous phone, Light Phone 2, Light Company has announced more functional Light Phone 3. The co-founder of the company, Kaiwei Tan, says that Light Phone 2 with E Ink screen continues to be in great demand. However, some features of the device were not liked by the potential buyers and that is why the company corrected the errors and announced the Light Phone 3.

"E Ink screen, refresh rate: almost 50% of our users couldn't get used to them. This is the main reason why they refuse [the device]," he explained.

Potential buyers also did not like the lack of a camera. In the case of Light Phone 3, the E Ink screen has been replaced by a 3.92-inch black and white OLED screen with a resolution of 1080 × 1240 pixels. On the left side there is a wheel, which by turning it adjusts the brightness of the screen. On the same wheel there is also a button to turn on and off the flashlight.

The phone has a 50 MP main camera and an 8 MP front camera with fixed focus range. They are designed for scanning QR codes and making video calls.

Light Phone 3 received an NFC module, as the manufacturer intends to enable wireless payments, there is also a USB Type-C connector, which is present in most modern devices, and a fingerprint scanner.

The battery can be replaced independently, which will positively affect the service life of the device. The phone is powered by a Qualcomm SM 4450 chip (Snapdragon 4 Gen 2). RAM: 6 GB, built-in: 128 GB.

The phone is available for pre-order, the price will depend on the number of applications received. the more devices the company sells, the lower its price will be. So far, the price on the company's website is 399 dollars, the delivery is scheduled for January of next year, but the advertising materials mention the price of 799 dollars.

The most challenging aspect of this project is striking a balance between simplicity and minimal user needs. Now the phone has basic tools for listening to music and podcasts, a calendar, a navigator and a notes application.

In the future, the manufacturer is considering integrating Spotify API tools, a taxi service application, the ability to make contactless payments, voice messages, as well as Beeper, which will serve to integrate most of the instant messengers, into Light Phone 3. The company has also experimented with ChatGPT and other AI platforms, but has not yet decided to integrate them.
