What is special about the budget smartphone Nothing Phone (2a) and why more than 100,000 units were sold in one day?

The recently released Nothing Phone (2a) may at first glance seem like just a cheap alternative to the cooler Nothing Phone 2. Yet it has proven to be significantly more popular than its predecessors: Nothing has sold more than 100,000 smartphones in just 24 hours, according to company CEO Carl Pei.

Why did the new smartphone attract buyers?

First of all, it is worth noting that Nothing Phone (2a) combines an affordable price (from $300), impressive characteristics and an original design.

The smartphone received a MediaTek Dimensity 7200 Pro processor combined with 8 or 12 GB of RAM and a storage capacity of 128 or 256 GB, an AMOLED screen with a diagonal of 6.7 inches (resolution 2412 × 1080 pixels, refresh rate 120 Hz, peak brightness 1300 nits, HDR10+, aspect ratio 20:9), protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5, as well as a 5000 mAh battery with support for 45-watt fast charging: from 0 to 100% the smartphone will be charged in just 1 hour.

In terms of cameras, there is a dual camera setup with a 50MP main sensor with optical image stabilization and a 50MP sensor for panoramic shots. Front camera - 32 MP.

The smartphone runs Android 14 with the proprietary Nothing OS 2.5 shell. Dimensions - 161.7 × 76.3 × 8.6 mm, it weighs 190 grams. There is also IP54 protection, three LEDs for illuminating the case, support for two SIM cards, Bluetooth 5.3, Wi-Fi 6, NFC, USB Type-C 2.0.
